MedVista Turns One Year

MedVista Healthcare Solutions India Pvt. Ltd., the pioneer in the concept of School Healthcare Programme, has successfully completed one year of operation.

Starting its operations in India on September 5, 2007 MedVista has signed up almost 200 schools in Kerala and Tamil Nadu to implement the School Health Programme.

The programme, which has been designed by an experienced team of educational and healthcare professionals, evaluates a child’s physical and cognitive development and determines whether it is age appropriate. The programme, based on WHO standards, is conducted by a team comprising Doctors, Speech Language Pathologists, Audiologists, Psychologists and Nutritionists.

A study on 1369 students of various schools of Kerala conducted by teams comprising Doctors, Speech Language Pathologists, Audiologists, Psychologists and Nutritionists has found out that 15% of the students have various psychological as well as scholastic problems. In higher classes, behavioural, emotional and concentration problems have also been found in the same ratio as scholastic problems.

At the same time, in students upto STD VII, 75% of the problems were related to learning. Prevalence of the problems was found to be 6% more in boys than in girls. Of the students having learning difficulties, 30% suffered from iron and nutritional deficiency, 7% suffered from speech and language problems and 2% from conductive as well as sensory hearing loss. More than 80% of the students who suffer from Learning Disability also suffer from attention and concentration problems.

The studies were conducted as part of MedVista’s School Health Programme.

Headquartered at Infopark in Cochin, the company has its operational office and intervention centre at Powerhouse Road, Palarivattom, where allied health services like intelligence test, behaviour therapy, speech language therapy, remedial training for learning disability, audiometric testing, dirt therapy and counselling are offered.
